Once you arrive at your accommodation, you are looked at questioningly by a pair of cows. You smile and breathe in the country air; it feels fresher than at home. You smell the neighbor’s campfire and walk to the water where the boats are. A little further on, you see the village and plot a walk along the dike. If the sun breaks through tomorrow it might be nice to sail. You pre-book a sloop at Smûk and check out our Country Store for some goodies along the way. Enjoy a day of sailing on the Tjeukemeer to Sloten or Langweer. Or enjoy the peace and nature across the small river Tjonger. You’ve pulled that off nicely.

Smûk is an old Stelp farmhouse in the middle of the meadows in the heart of Friesland. In the farm barn you will find a cozy living room. Who would have thought hay bales could be so stylish? The soft light bulbs hang playfully throughout the room. The farm tables are perfect for an evening of gourmet dining, or a game of Rummikub. The living room is a place for socializing but can also delightfully retire yourself and enjoy the peace that the old truss radiates. Sometimes they have a cup of coffee and children play in the children’s kitchen. At other times, it’s quiet and you plop into one of the vintage chairs for a lazy afternoon. Walking in with warm cheeks from a brisk walk and in the mood for a cold beer? Then there’s a fridge of specialty beer waiting for you in ‘t store. What you pick up you write down in a notebook; trust is self-evident. Among the shelves you will also find a good bottle of wine and a delicious piece of farmhouse cheese. In the freezer is meat from our own farm. Don’t feel like cooking? Then bring a stew from the farm.

Smûk conquers a place in your heart. You drive away with a bucket list of things you still wanted to do and come home with a lot of fond memories. Pour a cup of hot chocolate and read stories of visitors who have gone before you.
“Enjoy everything the Frisian countryside has to offer. Peace, space, air. Happiness is in the small which releases a great feeling. The sunrise is breathtakingly beautiful here. Smûk is a fine place to stay. It is pure, country style, but extremely well cared for. Crista and Gert are very friendly and helpful. I found stoking up the stove for the hot tub a fun activity. Then sat in the hot water under a crisp starry sky. I myself was at the campsite, but they also have a cottage hûske and also a tiny house … really a beautiful place. Crista has great attention to detail and beautiful materials. Even the shower facility for the camping guests is smûkkig (?) 🙂“

“Smûk recreation lives up to its name, cozy and beautiful surroundings!
The welcome was warm which made you feel at ease right away.
Crista and Gert are incredibly sweet and kind people, take the time for you, think with you and are very helpful.
We stood with our folding trailer on 1 of the camping spots, which we liked, we had a beautiful view of the meadows and in the distance saw the boats sailing in the canal.
The plumbing is neatly clean, there is a large living room where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, there is a store with fresh meat, you can rent a sloop, you can take a dip in the canal and you are so in Lemmer.
We had a great time despite the bad weather!“

“Wonderful small campsite, beautifully decorated, clean plumbing, nice shared facilities, friendly owners, cozy store with tasty products.
The fresh croissants and homemade apple pies were delicious.
The joint pizza night was very cozy and delicious.
We had a nice swim in the ditch and a fire in the evening overlooking the meadows.
Lots of mosquitoes!

Stood here with the caravan with a beautiful view over the fields.
Family of ours stayed in a Smûk tent and together we enjoyed everything the place has to offer.
In the evening with the children and family we baked hamburgers and made marshmallows on the fire.
A wonderful experience for young and old.

The sanitary facilities and outdoor kitchen are fine and offer a good base to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner together.
The store sells good regional quality products that fit in well with the Smûk concept.
